I was raised
in a German-English bilingual household, then began learning French as a
child. French studies continued through college, including a gap year at the
Université de Caen, France. Thus, when I undertook to learn Spanish, I had
the necessary foundational skills and learning techniques to make rapid progress. Then came 12
years living in El
Salvador, where I worked entirely in Spanish as a document analyst,
librarian, translator and researcher in university and non-profit settings. I
have never stopped studying and learning Spanish, and have worked to develop
and improve my translation skills since the mid-1980s, when I was first
accredited by the American Translators
Association. After moving
to Indiana in 1999, I obtained a Master’s degree in Information Science and
pursued PhD studies for several more years, focusing my research on
information-seeking practices of Spanish-speaking immigrants. However,
language work is my passion, and I chose to devote myself fully to the
language profession starting in 2006.
Thanks to my graduate studies and earlier work in library and
university settings, I am an accomplished researcher and now possess an extensive library of
translation resources. Court
interpreting complements my translation skills and practice. Shortly after the Supreme Court of Indiana
began its Court
Interpreter Certification program, I completed the training courses and
passed the written and oral exams in 2004.
I became certified by the Administrative
Office of the US Courts (Federal certification) in 2007, and interpret
regularly in courts throughout the area. Working on a
freelance basis from my home office in Bloomington, I
specialize in legal translations of documents produced in all
Spanish-speaking countries. At the
client’s request, I can provide a notarized certification of translation
accuracy. I am also available as a certified Spanish interpreter for
hearings, trials, and depositions throughout Southern and Central Indiana and
Northern Kentucky. |
